Military Education Committee

The Manchester and Salford Universities' Military Education Committee, MEC for short, maintains an oversight of the three service units on behalf of the universities of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan and Salford. The MEC receives formal annual reports from the service units and has informal inter-action between committee members and the service units throughout the year. The MEC is also a member of COMEC, the national committee.

The three service units are:

Students of the three Universities and higher education colleges in the area may apply to join any one of the units on a voluntary basis.

Current Chairman of the MEC

Eric Grove is from the School of English Sociology, Politics & Contemporary History at the University of Salford. Professor Grove is one of the two Professors of Naval History in the United Kingdom and has a world wide reputation in the fields of naval history and contemporary maritime strategy. He has published numerous books and articles in these fields and also has research interests in nuclear weapons and strategy and British defence policy. He often appears on television and radio as a commentator on these issues as well as wider matters of national and international security.
