Physics Teaching Facilities
The Joule Physics Laboratories include a purpose-built suite of Teaching Laboratories that opened in May 2005.
These are large open-space laboratories, designed to allow good contact between students at different levels.
Along with the usual University Lecture Theatres, Tutorial Rooms and other facilities, Physics Student Facilities in the Newton Building include the:
- Main Joule Physics Teaching Laboratory
- Foundation Year Laboratory
- Electronics Laboratory
- Optics Laboratory
- Vacuum Technology Laboratory
- Physics Computing Laboratory
- Space Technology Laboratory (run by Steve Bennett)
- School Project Laboratory
- High-Performance Computing & 3D Visualisation Facilities, and a
- Student Common Room (computer-equipped and containing all course textbooks).
Moreover, Student Project Work often includes usage of the Physics Research Facilities in the Newton Building or those in the nearby Maxwell Building or Cockcroft Building.
