(i) Physics Posters
Because of its unique integration of science, technology and mathematics, studying Physics can open up a wealth of opportunities for students. The first three posters map a route through learning (Your Scales), employment (Your Career) and outcomes (Your Achievements).
Your Scales - Physics Poster
The 'Your Scales' poster shows how physicists explore all aspects of the universe in
which we live - from its smallest building blocks to its greatest expanses and everything in between.
The scientific notation for numbers is included along with an image that shows a context in which numbers
of that size are commonly used.

Your Career - Physics Poster
The 'Your Career' poster links each of these sizes with a corresponding career that a physics graduate
might follow (e.g. finance typically deals will £millions (mega, 106).
Although many physics students continue to work in scientific research after graduation, others move on
to careers as diverse as finance, teaching and medicine.

Your Achievements - Physics Poster
The 'Your Achievements' poster covers four exciting areas of research at the University of Salford:
Bio-Nanotechnology, Space Travel, Renewable Energy, and Medical Imaging.
These are illustrated by: an array of limpet teeth (which contain bio-nanomagnets),
a nebula (an interstellar cloud of dust and gas), an array of solar panels, and a magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a human head.
Many great developments come about through our ever-growing understanding of physics,
and these examples demonstrate the link between scientific research and its applications in the world outside.

Physical Constants - Physics Poster
To provide some insight into potential career opportunities arising from the study of science, and to give a few glimpses of the relevance of science in the modern day world, we framed the constants with a selection of pictures that portray:
• satellites, telecommunications & imaging
• civil engineering
• space exploration-driven technologies
• computing and the manufacture & design of internet technologies
• aeronautics
• developments in audio, video & acoustics
• atmospheric physics (e.g. global warming)
• new materials & nanotechnologies
• multimedia & laser applications, and
• mechanical engineering.

Units & Dimensions - Physics Poster
To convey the relative timings of discoveries in science and engineering, and to set popular units within a historical context, we chose a frame of famous scientists for this poster.
The pictures of the scientists are arranged by their respective dates of birth.
Their periods of contribution to science and engineering thus become later as one looks clockwise around the frame.

Physics with a Foundation Year - Poster
Salford Physics is very proud of the long-established role that we have played in allowing students access to our Physics degrees via our Physics with a Foundation Year programme.
After completion of the first year of this programme, students can choose to transfer to level one of any other physics programme.
The strong and targeted preparation that this access route provides often results in students finally earning first-class degrees.
This poster highlights the success of just one such student.

Request Copies of our Physics Posters
If you would like to be sent A3 hard copies of the above posters, then send us a email with your contact and delivery information, and stating how many of which poster(s) you would like.
Another Physics with a Foundation Year Student
Another example of a very successful student who came through our Physics with a Foundation Year programme is Amy Gandy.
Watch her video [5.5Mb wmv], where she talks about what she is doing now and her plans.
(ii) Physics Learning Resources
- A selection of Elementary Mathematics hyper-Tutorials, from the PPLATO Maths and Physics Resources, are online and available for you to use.
- Our colleagues in Acoustics, Audio & Video have also developed some excellent physics resources: Sounds Amazing (GCSE Science) and Sounds Amazing (A Level Science)
