Physics Jobs & Salford Physics courses

Wed 16 May - Physics Open Day

Physics underpins much in our everyday lives: basic magnetism led to CAT, PET and MRI scanners, photonics led to CD's, LED displays and barcode scanners. In fact much of technology today - mobile phones, solar panels, hydrogen cars, computer technology, music technology and many more - is founded in physics. As a result physicists are in great demand in almost every walk of life.

Whether you will eventually run your own business, or play a vital part in an established institute or company, there is a diverse range of employment sectors to choose from. For example, here is how Alex Seeley - a Tax Adviser at Ernst & Young - described the skills that a physicist develops:

"Physicists are excellent strategic thinkers because they can successfully interpret complex information into actionable results that can positively affect organisations. Data collection, extraction and outcomes are core functions for business and such skills are inherent in physics."

What's new?

A unique part of the Salford physics degree is our emphasis on employer engagement. Professional physicists from employer organisations, such as Salford Royal Hospital, the Royal Navy, BDP Acoustics, Atkins Global, and OpTIC Technium, come in to talk about real-life situations of working in industries where physics graduates are sought after. Students are also given problems to solve related to the industry of the guest speaker.

As a Salford physics graduate you will have no shortage of skills. Our teaching methods and physics courses provide you with skills that are relevant in any working environment. As well as being highly numerate, analytical and logical, the chances are that you'll also be a creative thinker - capable of communicating effectively, managing projects and excellent at problem solving and negotiating.
